Kerry Writers Interpretative Museum, Co. Kerry


Listowel, and indeed North Kerry has been described as the 'Literary Capital of Ireland' and has produced an abundance of world famous writers, giving it a uniqueness not to be found in any other part of Ireland.
Seanchaí honours over eighty Kerry-based writers, some of whom
have become national and international figures in the world of literature.
Each Room presents an audio interpretation of the works of the writers.

Literary Cafe & Restaurant

Chef Noreen and our friendly staff in the Literary Café where you can choose from our extensive menu. Whether it is morning tea or coffee or full lunch you can be assured of the most excellent cuisine, prepared
freshly each day.

Book & Gift Shop

After visiting the Writers' Centre take a moment to peruse our extensive book & gift shop where you can purchase the works of the many writers featured in the Centre.
We also stock local hand made crafts from the exclusive 'Ken Watters Pottery' handmade in Listowel to the beautiful wood turning of Seamus Quinlan of Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry.
Take a little bit of Listowel home with you when you leave!

Archival Library & Reading Room

Since the Centre opened in 2000 we have been compiling a collection of books by the Kerry Writers for our Archival Library, many of which are now out of print.
While we do not yet have a comprehensive collection visitors are welcome to read from these selected works in the bright and relaxing surroundings of our Reading Room.


On the N69 Road Route, 17 miles from Tralee, 45 miles from Limerick, 8 miles from the Shannon Car Ferry, 15 miles from Kerry Airport and 50 miles from Shannon Airport

Opening Hours

The Seanchaí Centre is open to the public during the following times :
June to September Open 7 days from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm - Last tours at 4.30 pm.
(Restaurant open at weekends for group bookings only)
October to May Open 5 days Monday to Friday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm - Last tours at 3.00 pm
(Available to open weekends for group bookings by appointment)
